I’ve admired this ancient ring form forever and finally decided to carve a couple versions in wax to see what it would teach me.  I love the subtlety, proportions and how all the curves meet up in perfect harmony, and how this gorgeous aquamarine looks like it came from a glacier.

I’ve been in love with ancient jewelry forever and the day I stumbled upon the Antiquarium in NYC was magical. Like going to the Met, only up close and personal. This is a smaller version of the ancient bezel ring with a higher shoulder to accommodate deeper faceted stones. Like I said earlier, I love the subtlety, proportions and how all the curves meet up in perfect harmony, and this sapphire is simply mesmerizing!

I have a weakness for rose cut diamonds, any size, shape or color. This exceptionally fine oval rose cut diamond is bezel set in 18ky gold on a roll printed oval concave disc.  The shimmering surface of the palladium and 18ky band is created by forging the wire with a textured hammer before fabrication.

I just love these these rose cut cabs and choose the more interesting ones for rings, that way you can watch what the stone does.  This one has amazing color which is deeper when seen from the sides and the epidote crystal inclusions create the illusion that you’re looking underwater.

This pair of gently worn, previously owned constellation bands belonged to a lovely client of mine who unfortunately developed arthritis. I made her a pair of twist bands that are re-sizable and these have been refinished and looking for a new home.

Starting with round wire I forge random flat edges into the metal with a textured hammer.  Once they’re twisted a wavelike pattern appears that never repeats, so no two will ever be the same.

This is a thinner gauge gold wire than the tight twisted band. I use the same process of forging and flattening areas with a textured hammer. This helps define the wave pattern that appears once it’s twisted.   Each one is totally unique.
